Megan grew up watching her father lose his battle with alcoholism. She swore she'd never end up like him. Then one morning she woke up and realized she'd drunk every bottle of her husband's expensive whiskey — and she couldn't stop.

In this episode of the Sober Motivation Podcast, Megan opens up about mommy wine culture, drinking in secret, and what it actually took to quit drinking for good after years of telling herself she didn't have a problem.

Key Takeaways

Mommy wine culture is real and it's dangerous. The "wine mom" identity feels harmless and even funny. For Megan, it was a slow, socially acceptable slide into alcohol dependence that took years to recognize.

"I don't drink like my dad, so I don't have a problem." Megan compared herself to her father for years and decided she was fine. That comparison kept her stuck. Alcohol addiction doesn't have to look like one thing to be real.

You have to do it for yourself. Megan tried twice before May 21st. Both times it was about what was being taken from her. The third time, it was about what she was giving back to her kids and that changed everything.

Community is the difference maker. AA, the SM Community, her sponsor, the nurse friend who pointed her toward help. Megan didn't get sober alone and she knew she had to quit drinking alcohol. She got sober surrounded by people who understood.

"You can have fun without alcohol." That's Megan's tagline and she means it. Concerts, vacations, island trips she did all of it sober that first summer and enjoyed every moment more than she ever had before.
